Biography

Ian Woolford has worked in a variety of roles with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand over the past 30 years. Ian started his career in the Economics department. He has been a manager in the Financial Markets, Financial Stability and Prudential departments. He was also New Zealand’s representative on the IMF Executive Board (1999 to 2000).

As Director of Money and Cash, he is responsible for all currency operational functions (banknote and coin procurement and related activities), as well as broader money-related policy issues such as the redesign of the cash system, Central Bank Digital Currency ('Digital Cash') and policy issues relating to private innovation in money.
