BBVA , General Manager, New Digital Businesses
Teppo Paavola is the Chief Development Officer, BBVA and General Manager of New Digital Businesses (NDB) at BBVA bbva.com, the Fintech disruption arm of the global bank. In this role, he is responsible for the group’s growth into new businesses through M&A, venture capital, new ventures and partnerships. Based out of Madrid, Mr. Paavola oversees the NDB’s global offices in Madrid, San Francisco, Hong Kong and London; overseeing the team managing a portfolio of digital finance companies. Under his leadership, BBVA NDB is actively pursuing innovative businesses shaping the future of the banking sector.
Prior to joining BBVA in 2014, Paavola was Vice President and Head of M&A, Global Business Development, and Developer Relations at PayPal. A Silicon Valley veteran, he held several executive positions at Nokia from 2004 to 2012 and at GE Capital from 2006 to 2009, where he held senior business development and M&A focused roles mainly in Europe. He was also General Manager of GE Capital’s Finland office, which he was responsible for establishing and overseeing.
Mr. Paavola is Founder and CEO of multiple start-ups across several industries and is considered a financial technology pioneer. He has also held board memberships across four continents. Paavola is currently on the Board of Simple Finance, Atom Bank, Holvi Finland, Propel Venture Partners, and BBVA Open Platform.
Teppo holds an Ms.C. in Economics from Helsinki School of Economics and an MBA from INSEAD.
